Construction & Composition: Wall vinyls are created in our design lab using a sophisticated graphics program. The final designs are then set to one of our vinyl cutting machines where each object and letter is individually traced by the machine’s blade. Once cut, the toughest job remains. Every vinyl is “weeded” to remove the material not used in the design. This includes the center of O’s, E’s, P’s, and other small pieces and the process is accomplished by hand. Much of this “piece work” is done off the P. Graham Dunn campus by local Amish women. Since our workshop uses electricity some Amish sects are forbidden from working in this environment. Piece work is one way in which an Amish family can earn a living while still adhering to their way of life. Each vinyl is then topped with transfer tape and is ready for packaging.
